During this event always some artists were present to demonstrate their techniques, offer art courses or start different actions. Performance, street painting, author readings, cabaret, music concerts, street theaters, variety entertainment, fashion show formed not only a frame but showed how various the spectrum of art can be. The visitors of the island experienced many surprises. The event was opened 1st august, 1998.
Then the North Sea island Helgoland became for two months, exact until September 30th, a stage and a mirror of current, contemporary art. Not the well-known names attracted, but fresh, unbound artists. Their quality claims were not dictated by the art market, but by themselves. Art was never more free. The visitors had the opportunity to get an overall view about the various different style directions of contemporary art. Whether realism or abstract pictures, surrealism, impressionism, expressionism, experimental painting, photorealism, - this and much more found its room and offered highly imaginative excursions to the depths of art.
The sculptures and installations spreaded over the complete island. Not only the beaches were included, but also buildings and other selected places.
